Last season did not turn out to be what many Real Madrid fans would’ve wanted, but nonetheless that is a page in the past. Moving on to the present, it is a new season and it is transfer deadline.
So let’s recap some of the action that happened this past weekend.
Real Madrid tied their opening season match but made quite a comeback on their second match against Real Betis netting a total of five extraordinary goals and not letting Real Betis score a single one.
The game started off a with a great goal by Gareth Bale, assisted by James Rodriguez during the second minute. If you’re Real Betis this is not a complete blow, but it does throw you off a bit at least mentally because you do not expect the opposing team to score within the first two minutes of a match.
Before I make this longer than it has to be let’s talk about the goal keeper situation for a bit… Keylor Navas denied Real Betis the penalty they were awarded and had a brilliant performance throughout the rest of the game. One would think that after all the scrutiny of the Iker Casillas starting goal keeper ordeal and the fact that Iker Casillas is now Porto‘s goalie, the scrutiny would die down a bit; but to the demise of Navas, Manchester United‘s goal keeper, David De Gea as a new potential goalie would come into the picture. As the end of the month approached so did transfer deadline, apparently the De Gea-Navas situation just got a bit messier, according to sources both parties had agreed on a transfer deal but began negotiations on deadline day, and everything seemed that Real Madrid would get their way and sign the Spanish goal keeper and trade Navas and both parties would be satisfied, but things do not always go according to plan especially if you’re on a deadline. De Gea is still a Manchester United player and Keylor Navas is still at Real Madrid, so, what happened you may ask? Well turns out the paperwork was not submitted on time. Early Tuesday Real Madrid releases a news release with regards to what happened given that the whites had everything ready to present De Gea on Tuesday but that did not turn out according to plan. In the statement, it says Real Madrid had submitted their paper work on time but Manchester had not. Manchester came out to say that Real Madrod backed down at the last minute, as we can see this situation is a big mess. But…moral of the story is, do your work on time and if anything Real Madrid might have to wait until the winter transfer window if they want to sign De Gea and their current appeal is denied.
But…back to the Real-Betis game, just before half time, James Rodriguez would find the net once again. After halftime, Karim Benzema, the one returning after battling an injury and whom many speculated would end up in Arsenal, but Benzema cleared that up within the week on a post on social media that Real Madrid was and will continue to be his home. Benzema scored a great header. But it wouldn’t stop there, the shower of goals would continue with a masterpiece by James Rodriguez. A beautiful bicycle kick would count as the fourth for the whites. Last but certainly NOT least, Gareth Bale would net the fifth and final goal for the whites of the night. Real Betis were unable to make any sort of comeback. One would say wow! Great game from Real Madrid, but wait…what happened to Cristiano Ronaldo? Well, Mr. CR7 himself might not have scored but his team mates managed to get the work done, and it’s not like he disappeared in the game it was just that it wasn’t his night to score and that’s completely understandable. It is unfair to judge a team or a player so early in the season, of course there will always be speculations but we have to take into consideration that CR7 is not Real Madrid, the team is full of players with great qualities and abilities to help the team acquire the goal in a game which is acquire three points. This weekend most of the players have international duty therefore there will be no league games, but it will be interesting to see how the season continues to unfold.
