They might not have captured the English Premier League title, but Arsenal finally ended its nine-year title drought with a 3-2 win over Hull City to earn the English FA Cup!
Which means all those trophy-less Arsenal jokes can be put to rest, at least for now!
Due to very poor defending early in the game, Arsenal found itself trailing Hull City when James Chester stunned the Gunners with a goal in the third minute. Four minute later, Hull City struck again as Curtis Javies netted another goal to drop Arsenal into a 2-0 hole.
Santi Cazorla put Arsenal back in the game with a fantastic free kick to cut Hull City’s advantage to 2-1.
Still, if Hull City could prevent Arsenal from equalizing, Hull City would become the FA Cup champions. Fate, however, disagreed, as Laurent Koscielny netted the equalizer off a corner kick in the 71st minute. Hull City had been 20 minutes away from earning a title.
By the end of regulation, the match remained tied at two, which meant both teams would be heading into 30 minutes of extra time.
And then Aaron Ramsey, with a final, triumphant shot, scored the game-winning goal to end Arsenal’s trophy drought and allow the Gunners to emerge victorious. Ramsey’s goal came with less than 15 minutes to play.
Winning the FA Cup is a nice way for Arsenal to wrap up its season, which began on the right path with a huge signing on the final day of the summer market when the Gunners picked up Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. Arsenal even surprised onlookers by leading the Premier League at one point.
Fast forward to present day and Arsenal lost its lead in the Premier League, which was ultimately won by Manchester City. Arsenal’s efforts shouldn’t go unrecognized, though, because of the FA Cup win and its fourth-place finish in the Barclays.
Later they shocked everyone by leading the Premier League at one point, but fast forwarding to present time, and Manchester City won the Premier League but, the efforts of Arsenal should not be unrecognized, they have won the FA Cup and were fourth place in the Premier League.
The season may be over for Arsenal, but its future looks bright for a better finish next season. Head coach Arsene Wenger will be continuing to oversee the team, as he announced during the FA Cup celebrations he will be signing a new contract later this week.
